Stainless Tanks & Vessels

Stainless Tanks & Vessels Services

Over 160 years of genuine engineering excellence

From our iconic beginnings of developing cast iron water carts used in WWI, we’ve spent over 160 years evolving into a modern Australian engineering powerhouse of customised stainless steel tanks, silos, vessels, and access systems. From concept development, design, and project manufacturing through to delivery, installation, and servicing, J. Furphy & Sons Group lives up to our legacy in bringing your projects to life.

We never let it rest, until our good is better, and our better best.

What We Offer

Tanks, vessels & silos designed for purpose and built to last

We believe in building things right for industries that rely on strict regulatory compliance, durability, and the highest level of quality. That’s why we’re the specialists chosen by industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, agriculture, and many others. We design, fabricate, install, and maintain quality stainless steel tanks, vessels, and silos that stand the test of time and demand.

Stainless steel offers superior resistance to corrosion, extreme temperatures, and chemical exposure, making it the ideal material for hygienic and rigorous storage and processing applications. Its strength and durability fortify its long-term performance with a low maintenance lifespan, and our hygienic finishes make compliance and cleaning seem effortless. Every piece is welded and polished to ensure leak-proof integrity and manufactured to the highest industry standards.

Every tank, vessel, and silo is conceived and crafted to deliver quality that shines, and our specialist team works closely with you to design exactly what you need for purpose and build it to last.

Our step-by-step process

1

Enquiry & Technical Consultation: Our technical sales team and engineers work through your process requirements, operating conditions, site constraints, and applicable standards in a discovery meeting.

2

Concept Design & Quotation: We develop a concept design and drawing, with material grade (304, 316L, duplex), wall thickness, nozzle schedule, and surface finish confirmed, and provide a comprehensive quote.

3

Detailed Design & Engineering: We issue detailed manufacturing drawings, weld maps, and full AS 1210 design calculations for your approval, with coded vessels reviewed and registered by an independent inspection body where required.

4

Fabrication & In-Process Quality Assurance: Fabrication is carried out in our regional Victorian, purpose-built workshop, overseen by qualified welding inspectors. Pressure vessels are hydrostatically tested under inspection authority witness, then all stainless surfaces passivated.

5

Delivery, Installation & Commissioning Support: We coordinate transport, oversize permits, and lift planning, and can provide installation supervision nationally, with all vessel documentation handed straight to you.

6

After-Sales & Lifecycle Support: We support assets beyond delivery and for the vessel’s lifecycle. We hold the original design and fabrication records, meaning future modifications can be engineered against the as-built configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions - Stainless Tanks & Vessels

The full range of austenitic grades (most commonly 304/304L and 316/316L), plus duplex (2205) and super duplex for chloride-rich or high-strength applications. Grade selection is driven by process chemistry, temperature, and lifecycle cost.

2B, No. 4 brushed, and No. 8 mirror, plus electropolishing for hygienic and high-purity applications. Internal Ra values can be specified to 3-A, EHEDG, or pharmaceutical requirements, and all stainless surfaces can be pickled and passivated as required.

Yes. All pressure-retaining materials are supplied with EN 10204 3.1 mill certificates, traceable to heat number and recorded in the MDR.

Pressure vessels are designed to AS 1210, with AS 4343 hazard classification and WorkSafe registration where required. Atmospheric tanks are designed to API 650, AS 1692, or client specification. ASME VIII Div. 1 is available on request.

Yes. All welding is by coded welders working to qualified WPS/PQRs in accordance with AS/NZS 3992 (pressure equipment) and AS/NZS 1554.6 (structural stainless).

Yes. We fabricate to 3-A and EHEDG guidelines for dairy, beverage, food, and pharmaceutical clients, including crevice-free welds, sanitary fittings, and verified internal Ra finishes.

We fabricate up to 350,000 Litres and heights up to 28 metres under hook.

Yes. Top and side-entry agitators, dimple or half-pipe jackets, internal coils, insulation, and cladding are integrated from concept stage to ensure structural and thermal performance.

Both. We fabricate to client-issued packages or develop the full design from a process brief. Most clients prefer a collaborative approach where we review and optimise the concept before fabrication.

Each project is unique and we work with you at quote stage to understand your project and lead times. A firm schedule is provided with the quotation so you can plan everything accordingly.
