Project Overview
The Kananook Station Upgrade required the galvanizing of approximately 660 tonnes of structural steel for a major rail infrastructure project, and J. Furphy & Sons Group proved to be right team for the job. The project involved complex steel components, strict durability requirements, and coordination across multiple galvanizing facilities. The result was a high-quality, compliant coating system, ensuring long-term corrosion protection in a coastal, high-exposure environment while maintaining consistent finish across all components.
The Challenge
The project required the processing of a gargantuan 660 tonnes of strong structural steel across multiple fabrication batches. The structural members were large with complex steel geometries which called for all hands on deck to across our network. The steel was required to meet durability requirements for a coastal, high-corrosion environment and full compliance with AS/NZS 4680 across all components, coordinating logistics and production from end-to-end.
Our Solution
We called on our specialist network across our multiple sites to ensure maximised efficiency, consistency, and control throughout all fabricated components and the entire project. We applied strict quality control processes to ensure compliance with AS/NZS 4680, and managed venting and drainage requirements to ensure proper coating of complex steel sections. We handled all transport planning and batching to optimise efficiency and minimise delays with an impressive turnaround.
